I am not one to enjoy a scary movie, a haunted house, or a creepy gorilla man chasing after me with a chainsaw in a spooky corn maze. These things cause me to shake uncontrollably and give me recurring nightmares that last for years. Not even kidding.

One thing that doesn’t creep me out about Halloween time is all the adorable costumes that people come up with. I am a huge fan of group costumes, especially for families. When our oldest daughter was just 3 months old, we dressed up as a cop, a robber, and money bags. It was so fun!
Robbing the Bank Group Costume Idea
So, in case you’d like to use this idea for your group costume this year, I’ll point you in the right direction for where to get clothes and materials.
The Cop
I doubt you’ll want to go out and buy an entire outfit just to play the role of the cop. I was the cop, and fortunately I already had dark blue pants, a blue blouse, and black shoes in my closet that I could wear. I did buy a sheriff’s badge, a police hat, and a whistle. * and another I did find police costumes that were cheaper than buying everything separately, but the reviews were not so great. A lot of people complained about the size being much too small. If you have to buy pants, a shirt, and/or shoes, get ones that you can wear for more than just Halloween.
In the picture, you can see that I am holding my badge to my shirt. This is because the cheap badge I got lost its pin about 5 minutes after I put it on that night.
The Robber
You can be as creative as you want with the robber. My husband was the robber, and he just used clothes that he already had on hand, like an old black winter hat and a black sweater. We bought the mask, and he purposely grew out his beard a bit to look more scruffy to play the part.

If you have a baby who is younger than 5 months old, this costume will work well on them. Any older than that, and you might have a baby who tries to wiggle free every single chance they get. Even for our 3 month old, this costume was a bit restrictive in what she could do. She wasn’t too comfortable, and we had to take off the costume when we got in the car since there is no hole for the car seat belt. Even though it may not look authentic, try putting holes in the bottom of the pillow case so your little one can move their legs around. It’s a lot better than having a screaming baby all night.
We bought an old pillow case from the thrift store, some tulle from the craft store, and play money from the Dollar Store. I don’t sew, so my mother-in-law sewed the tulle to the top of the pillow case. I used glue to put the big black dollar sign on the front and the fake bills on the tulle.

*I think your best bet for the pillow case would be to look at a thrift store. They are much too expensive online, and you’ll only be able to use it this once for the costume.

Great idea to get us thinking. It just dawned on me that Halloween will have to be delt with in the midst of the no spending challenge. We’ll need to be extra creative this year!
Yes, I know!! I really wanted to get to costumes in September, and then it just never happened, of course! So now I’m going to have to be really creative. I have no idea what I’ll do about candy. Thanks for stopping by, Kris. 🙂
